Erich Lesovsky has been an active musician for over 17 years. In his early years he garnered experience with various bands as a guitarist and front-man. Since the mid-1990s he has intensively committed himself to electronic music, tallying up his first sets as MaoMakMaa, always with his own idiosyncratic harmonic sound between ambient and electropop.
In February of 2002 he decided to move to Berlin to find an outlet for his work. Already in December of that year he released his first ambient tracks on a small Berlin independent label, Heimspiel F`hain Sampler / Popdealer Rec, shortly afterward coming out with the MaoMakMaa EP Falsche Parties on Electrotonal Rec. In the years following, his style developed more and more into danceable techhouse and electropop – often too pretty to be underground and too electronic to be pop. His performances at clubs throughout Berlin and in other cities were greeted with success. His J. Lipstick vinyl EP featuring four tracks somewhere between vocoder-electro, remixes and breakbeats came out in May 2004.
Since Erich’s style is constantly developing with the winds of experience and changing interests, the only way to categorize his current sound is to listen to his live-sets and tracks on the web and decide for yourself.
Live, Erich combines experimental loops from jars and plastic bottles, home-made instruments and bleep & blip-generators like the Theremin and optical synthesizers with melodic riffs and live vocals. His club sets venture between techhouse, minimal/percussive and electropop and always offer something new.
