Berlin native Charles Tone was already active as a guitarist and singer in numerous underground bands in the city ten years before his work as a DJ. Even during his band days, he was much more interested in synthetic soundscapes in the style of Robert Fripp than the distorted electric guitar solos of some of his co-musicians and their influences. This is reflected in the music that Charles Tone makes today.
He has played sets throughout the city since 1994 and has thus, establisheding a presence at numerous clubs.
He was featured at numerous large open-air events such as Fusion, The Nation of Gondwana, or and at the Fuckparade.
Charles Tone plays the "electronic Charleston", an unmistakable mélange of minimal house grooves and trance-dubby technotunes with unconventional breaks and an alternating accentuation of the beat, which he brings together in an unambiguous hybrid form. In contrast to the original Charleston, the electronic Charleston is a touch slower, but on the dance floor it nonetheless conjures up those signature swinging outward heel kicks combined with a bending and straightening of the knees.
He heads Langspielplattengemeinschaft with his partner Mary Jane, which, in addition to numerous other activities, regularly co-organizes events like the "dirty kicks...forget Friday" series in haus 13 in Berlin.
